Phoenix Comicon 2014

Phoenix Comicon is one of those events that I look forward to every year, then is gone in a flash. We have gone for three years so far. Typically the convention is held in May, over Memorial Day weekend, but scheduling conflicts this year meant it was held in June. In other words: it was hot! I'm thankful Phoenix Convention Center has plenty of air conditioning!

Last year when we went, I was about seven-eight months pregnant. The heat and crowds were hard to bear, especially on Saturday, the busiest day. However, just about everything about the convention is awesome, from the attendees, to the cosplayers, to the volunteers and the guests. It is worth it even if you are pregnant or pushing a stroller.

This year we decided to take Tripp on Friday. We expected to only be there about half the day and then drop him off with his Great Grandma for the afternoon while we returned. But - he did wonderfully and we ended up staying there with him until mid-afternoon. We went by ourselves for Saturday and Sunday, which was probably a good decision given the extreme crowds on Saturday.

Last I checked they do not have an official number, but I heard 80,000 being mentioned a lot on Saturday and honestly that sounds about right. However, this year they moved registration to another building, which allowed the exhibitor hall to expand. They also did some more spreading out of events and talks to different buildings and hotels. The third floor of the convention center was not used - I wonder if opening that up as well as the bridge between North and West buildings would alleviate some ground traffic.

Some photos of our days there...
